STUST also encourages teams to work together across colleges and departments, applying interdisciplinary knowledge to everyday life, solving real problems and promoting social progress in all aspects. STUST, Chi Mei Medical Center, and the NCKU SPARK team have always been closely interacting. In recent years, under the leadership of the College of Engineering, the Chi Mei Medical Center has extended many artificial intelligence applications for clinical cooperation. In the future, STUST will continue this kind of planning, providing abundant resources for teachers to organize various inter-college and interdisciplinary teams, so that students can cultivate their ability in interdisciplinary cooperation and to solid practical skills training. 】

Wei-Shiang Chiu, of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, a doctoral student who won the Diamond Award this year, was instructed by Prof. Yu-Chun Du of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Dr. Ji Liu, who is working with the Department of Information Technology and Chi Mei Hospital, with the support of NCKU Spark Project. The work "Artificial Wisdom Separation System Based on Beamforming Technology" was designed to help his grandfather, who is troubled by the use of traditional hearing aids. He designed a multi-language device to reduce the noises due to cocktail party effect. Combined with the design of the glasses, sounds of the object in concern can become clearer through visual locking, suppressing other useless sound sources and breaking through the technical bottleneck that traditional hearing aids cannot overcome. Liang-Ji Chen, Minister of Science and Technology, said on his Facebook that this is the first time in nearly two decades that students of the University of Science and Technology have beaten the teams from top universities to win the Diamond Award. This is also the first time that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has won the Diamond Award. It serves as a great example for our students in the future.
