Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won one gold medal, two silver medals, and eight bronze medals in the 2019 National University Taekwondo Martial Arts Festival

HungKuang University of Science and Technology recently held the 2019 National University Taekwondo Martial Arts Festival. The Taekwondo Club of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won one gold medal, two silver medals, and eight bronze medals, making a brilliant record. National University Taekwondo Martial Arts Festival aims at promoting Taekwondo and student sports. It promotes friendship among schools and promotes exchanges between communities through competitions. Individual competitions and group competitions are divided according to the Olympic standards. As the competition this time was composed of a general group and an open group, this competition had a total of more than 500 players coming from about 40 universities. The competition was fierce that it attracted the attention of all sectors and colleges.

In this competition, the Taekwondo Club of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology performed brilliantly. In the female solo posture competition, Lu-Jing Huang, a seventh level yellow belt player, won the championship. Sheng-Kai Lin, a fourth level red belt player, won the runner-up of the male fourth level group competition; whereas, Shin-De Hsu, a seventh level yellow belt player, won third place. Lu-Jing Huang and Jing-Yu Lei won third place in the twosome primary group. Sheng-Kai Lin won second place in the men's competitive group below 58 kg, and Meng-Chun Tsai won third place in the women competitive group of 67 kg, and Shun-Jin Tseng—a black belt player—won third place in the women competitive group of 49 kg., Shun-Jin Tseng, Ku-Yu Wu, and Yu-Zhen Huang won third place in the five-some group competition.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has always actively promoted student club activities. In addition to encouraging students to participate in various competitions inside and outside the campus, STUST has spared no effort in promoting sports activities. It is hoped that students can not only increase their physical fitness and activate their professional competitive ability, but also learn about the spirit of sportsmanship during the competition. This can help students cultivate a sense of honor under healthy competition and also release their physical and mental stress in a timely manner, so as to have a healthy body and mind.

Jing-Yu Lei, a member of the Taekwondo Club of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that the performance of the students in this competition was quite amazing, which fully demonstrated the results of ordinary training. Although many members participated in the competition for the first time, they achieved very great results. The members were happy for themselves and for the university. At the same time, she hopes that everyone can continue to work hard and move forward to the college cup next year.

Yan-Zhang Wu, Instructor of the Taekwondo club, expressed his appreciation for the performance of the players; he also affirmed the staff that cheered on the sidelines and helped. He said that the players can show the results of their weekday training when they are in the court. He said that the solid training is worthy of encouragement. He hopes that all the players in the university next year can go further and achieve better results.
