STUST assisted the Department of Agriculture, Chiayi County Government, to promote the national important wetland environmental education series "Wetland Adventure in Chiayi." A few days ago, a press conference was held in the investment promotion space on the first floor of the Chiayi County Government. The head of Chiayi County Zhang-Liang Weng was transformed into a wetland explorer, together with such conservation groups as the Urban and Rural Development Sub-Administration of the Ministry of Interior Construction, the Management Office of Yunjianan National Coastal Scenic Area, the Local Ecological Conservation Association, and the Wild Bird Society.

This event was to promote the ecological tourism and environmental education series of important national wetlands in Chiayi. The scene also presented the characteristic species in the environment of six important national wetlands in Chiayi, such as black-faced spoonbills, horseshoe crabs, the arc-edge fiddler crabs, Zhuluo tree frogs, mudskippers, etc. It brought people closer to the wetland environment and attracted people to participate in the "Wetland Adventure" series of activities to understand the importance of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature in the wetland.

As Magistrate Zhang-Liang Weng of Chiayi County pointed out, Chiayi County has six nationally important wetlands with rich biodiversity and natural landscapes. The "Aogu Wetland" presents a magnificent flying landscape where a large number of winter migratory birds return to the wetland to inhabit each year, which has won domestic and international appreciation. Bird lovers must visit the scenic spots. "Puzishi River Mouth Wetland" and "Bazhang River Mouth Wetland" have both natural ecology and the characteristics of aquaculture and fishery. The "Budai Salt Field Wetland" has become an important habitat for migratory birds under the careful management of conservation groups. In 2020, 550 black-faced spoonbills were recorded to have visited there, which shows the effectiveness of conservation. In addition, in the "Jianan Binzhen Wetland," most of the ponds still have irrigation functions, breeding abundant agricultural land and characteristic species; "Liao Wetland" is located along the coast between the Bazhang River and the estuary of the Longgong River. There are lagoons, sandbanks and mangrove forests. Traces of horseshoe crabs have also been found here in recent years. Chiayi County has rich wetland ecological characteristics. Through this series of environmental education activities, STUST will lead the residents of Chiayi County to experience the beauty of wetlands.

Director Yi-Fu Chen of STUST further pointed out that he hoped that through the "Wetland Adventure" activity, the public would be able to learn more about the birds, amphibians, mangroves and other characteristic species in the wetland, as well as better understanding of the current crises and issues facing the wetland. The importance of human survival would also attract more local farmers, fishermen, and community partners to create ecologically friendly habitats and help the place move towards a sustainable development model with the spirit of the Caspian Sea.
