STUST × Bureau of Culture, Tainan City Government × Stranded Island Dance Group: industry, government, and university worked together to implement the art of communion and promote cultural equality in Southern Taiwan.

The "Taijiang Inclusive Micro Theater and Outdoor Sketching Activity," held by the "Unlimited Art and Cultural Equality" USR project team of the Department of Pop Music Industry, STUST, in cooperation with the Bureau of Culture, Tainan City Government, and the Stranded Island Dance Group, ended successfully a few days ago. The twenty-two dancers trained for this event by the project, including twelve disabled and ten amateur dancers, performed their beautiful and far-reaching life stories based on the theme "The River of Life." NTS x ONE, the campus idol group of STUST, was also invited to have their performance, with exquisite dances that attracted the attention of the public. The USR project team of STUST also invited sign language interpreters and special education teachers to join the performance, so that every participant had an equal opportunity to watch the performance. Combined with the sketching activity held for primary and secondary school children, the project team extended the art of communion to the outdoor stage for nearly 1,000 children and public audience immersed in the art performance, show its cultural diversity and inclusiveness.

The Stranded Island Dance Group has been deeply involved in the Taijiang Cultural Center for three years and has continued to promote the concept of the art of communion. This year, it cooperated with the USR project team of STUST to set up workshops to train local residents and some physically and mentally disabled for inclusive performances. They worked together to achieve their training and attained the goal of local talent and cultivation of art in the place. In addition, the dance group was invited to represent Taiwan to in the US Center Stage national tour program to show the local characteristics of Taiwan on the world stage. It was an hour for the "Unlimited Art and Cultural Equality" USR project team to be able to cooperate with the dance group.

Assistant Professor Zhi-Jie Shu of the Department of Pop Music Industry, STUST, led a group of enthusiastic students to prepare, publicize and implement this event. Vice President of STUST Ming-Tsai Lai and Chair Hui-Ru Chen of the Department of Pop Music Industry supported this far-reaching interdisciplinary event with great action. As the crowd moved to participate in this mobile performance, students engaged in the practice of the concept, while parents and their children drew pictures together for the performance they were watch attentively. Everyone felt the power of the art of communion and looked forward to seeing the seeds of communion and equal rights to germinate and grow.

Section Chief Min-Hua Fang of the Bureau of Culture, Tainan City Government, said that she is very happy to see people entering the Taijiang Cultural Center to participate in the art of communion. She hopes that next year the art of communion can enter the community, so that Taiwan’s cultural equality can be deeply planted in the hearts of the public, making the world see and understand the diversity and integration of Taiwanese culture.

Deng-Maw Lu, President of STUST, said that implementing social responsibility is the goal of STUST. As a worker in higher education, he hope that the USR team of STUST can make persistent efforts, combine innovation and the enthusiasm of students, and continue to cooperate with the dance group. Together with the Bureau of Culture, Tainan City Government, STUST will continue to promote cultural equality and act as a positive drive to promote cultural progress in southern Taiwan.
