The STUST USR Hub seed project of Improving the Academic and Technological Literacy of Students in Disadvantaged and Remote Rural Areas offered the Teacher Training Center a service learning course—"Bluetooth Animal Headgear Technology Teaching Plan Workshop, “leading teachers and students to implement the teaching plan and injecting the spirit of DIY into the Albert Schweitzer summer camp to be held during the summer vacation.

This project was jointly promoted by Associate Professor Wen-shiong Wang, Assistant Professor Da-chi Liu, and Lecturer Rui-feng Hsu, together with the students of DIY Education Society from the Department of Creative Product Design of STUST. Last year, three technology camps were held in Taitung, Yunlin and other places, leading nearly 200 students and teachers to experience the fun of combining origami art with electronic circuits and receive a lot of responses. This year, the students developed "Bluetooth Animal Headgear Technology Lesson Plan" in 2021. It is an origami craft combined with a Bluetooth speaker, with a cute animal shape looking great. It is hilarious, controlled by the background program. One can hear the different sounds of animals when he or she puts on the headgear. The creative idea came from the movie "The Chef." In the movie, when the heroine was young, she always liked to put a cardboard box on her head, wandering in her own world of fantasy. That is exactly the atmosphere that the students of DIY Education Society wanted to create. It is hoped that children can also work on their own things and create a fantasy world where sounds can be closely felt.

The full name of the Albert Schweitzer Program is "Education Service Program of Albert Schweitzer’s Spirit Enactment for University Teachers and Students," which is promoted by the Ministry of Education to encourage teachers and students to practice Schweitzer's spirit of caring for the disadvantaged and professional service. From the Department of Applied Japanese, the Department of Visual Communication Design, the Department of Creative Product Design, the Department of International Business, the Institute of Leisure, Recreation, and Tourism Management, and the Institute of Educational Management of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, teachers and students completed the Bluetooth animal headgears, reflected on the practical experience to deepen the connotation of the lesson plan, and further integrated the literacy and domain knowledge, such as art, geometry, and performance.

Deng-maw Lu, President of STUST, said that the USR team of STUST DIY Education Society and Albert Schweitzer Teacher Training Team have the core goal of upturning disadvantaged education, looking forward to this cross-team and cross-disciplinary professional practice to a greater extent. This year, the team of the DIY Education Society will go to Penghu primary and secondary schools to promote the "Seeing Hometown Digital Camera Lesson Plan," allowing children to record the beauty of their hometown with their self-made digital cameras. The Albert Schweitzer teacher training team will also hold the "Multiple Exploration Stone Laboratory" Summer Camp at Shimen Elementary School in Tainan. The course content covers language, art, technology, mathematics, healthcare, and other fields. It will lead teachers and students to explore the joy of diverse learning, create unforgettable experiences, and keep a great memory of the summer vacation.
