Infinite design creativity found in 100 Works: "Infinity"—Joint Graduation Exhibition of the College of Digital Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology

The 2018 Joint Graduation Exhibition of the College of Digital Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology—"Infinity"—saw it grand opening on April 17 in the Sanlain Stadium of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology University. The exhibition lasted for six consecutive days, from the 16th to the 21st. A total of 132 works were exhibited in this joint exhibition, and the scale was the highest ever. The works were presented in the form of animation, motion picture, television program, graphic and packaging design, games and product design, etc. It fully demonstrated the great power and rich diversities of design of the works by the students of the college of digital design school's development are fully utilized, rich and full of creativity.

The theme of the graduation exhibition, Infinity, based on the concept of star-like burning, reflected students' dedication to design. The thematic color purple combined the stability of blue and the vigor of red. It indicated that students have the energy and character traits that make them look forward to being the best in the vast universe of creation.

This graduation achievement exhibition had a more innovative breakthrough than before, whether it came to 2D/3D multimedia entertainment and science department or the layouts of design works, ideas, and techniques. The works this year include games, animations, fan market planning, dynamic picture books, etc., all of which moved towards a balanced and diverse development. Among them, the work “City Afraid of Light” is a brand-new puzzle game created on the basis of Russian roulette, making players indulge in the pleasure of thinking during the course of various tests and challenges. Students used the concept of industrial revolution to create “steam nano.” The motivation is to make players in the game think about the conflicts brought by new technology and explore into the high speed society for the question whether the world is heading for a common prosperity a kind of collective decline. It is amazing that the works showed the spirit of social reflection of young students.

The works that the Department of Communication and Visual Design showed in the exhibition could be divided into three groups: "Commercial Design Group," "Creative Life Design Group," and "Animation Design Group." All the works showed students' concern with and attention to the trend of cultural issues in Taiwan. Among them, “Creative Life Design Group” for the first time was given in the exhibition. Taking the type of cultural and creative industries as its main axis, the group focused on innovative ideas and visual modeling that could make products more meaningful and valuable. "Tatacho River Sound" echoed the sound the Anping Canal in Tainan, which was once prosperous and covered by industrial sewage. The work was based on the sound produced during the development of fisheries, putting it in the historical contexts and integrating it into the grand design. Overall, it was highly creative.

The Department of Information and Communication worked very hard on the progress of certain familiar feature films, documentaries, and news topics. “Cry!” records the action of humble farmers of Sikong against the government. The film is touching and moving, full of cultural and humanistic features. It was considered the best documentary for the “Cultural Heritage Award.” “Life Educates Us” promotes the concept of “adopting instead of buying, culling instead of smashing, life moving life” through the story of the adoption of a stray school dog by the students of Tenan Elementary School. It brings for the concept of respecting life and others. The special New coverage was also featured in the in-depth coverage of the public television "Peopo 30" and publicly broadcast on the public television. "Graduation and Implementation" shows the courage of students to break through the difficulties of production and to challenge variety shows and reality programs. "Is Our Tedo" and "Easy Addiction," which combine community marketing with audio and video techniques, perform marketing activities for store and campus singers with impressive results.

This year, the Department of Innovative Product Design focused on the development of domestic product designs, cultural and creative designs, and interactive interface designs, showing great relevance to the trends of industry and professional development toward “connecting seamlessly with the industry.” "Finguide" is a game aid as well as a training program for physical rehabilitation. It combines physical therapy and training of the somatosensory game to assist the patient in everyday moves, reducing the inconvenience of going to and from the hospital and the tiresome feelings happening in the rehabilitation process. The work “bante” has been designed and improved to reduce the cuts or soreness on the waist that repeatedly happen to tea pickers on the job. It not only improves work efficiency and convenience, but also enhances the quality of tea. It is also hoped that the work can help retain the culture of tea-picking. These two works had also been highly praised by the judges in the "2017 Panasonic Green Life Creative Contest."

President Deng-Maw Lu of the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said at the opening ceremony that the school would increase its infrastructure and software power through MOE grants to provide students with better conditions for future development. "Taking from students and spending on students " is the concept that has always been upheld by STUST. It allows students to grow up in an innovative and excellent teaching environment, aiming at the "diversity and pragmatism" of technical and vocational education.
