The 2019 National Micro-Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition recently held its final at Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology, with more than 200 teams from 50 colleges and universities across the country participating in it. Ume team of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, formed by students Hui-Ying Chen, Jia-Hui Jian, Ting-Yu Huang, Yi-Zhen Lin, and Zhung-Yu Chen and jointly guided by Prof. Wei-Zhen Yang of the Department of International Business and Prof. Jia-Jun Lin of the Department of Visual Communication Design, won the championship.

Ume team presented a five-and-a-half-year marketing strategy and financial plan in short, medium and long terms, based on the creative and practical artwork "Plum Bottle" designed by Prof. Jia-Jun Lin of the Department of Visual Communication Design, which won the gold medal of the Thai International Invention Exhibition. In response to the issue of environmental protection, "Plum Bottle" was designed and created from a complete green production process covering its design, sales, manufacturer, and commercialization. As Director Zheng-Cheng Chen of SME Management Counseling Association said in his review, "Ume" team showed great composure and manners in the briefing, superior on-site performance in its presentation, and complete contents in its plan. The team, well received and highly evaluated by the judges, finally stood out from all the 204 teams and won the championship.

Wei-Zhen Yang, Chairperson of the Department of International Business, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology greatly encourages students to break the professional restrictions of the department during their school years and join cross-disciplinary programs. At the same time, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology is committed to promoting innovative and creative activities, encouraging students to participate in creative, innovative entrepreneurial competitions inside and outside the university. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology holds three-fold innovation activities every year to invigorate students' creativity and innovation and cultivate students' concepts and abilities on the basis of entrepreneurship. Jia-Hui Jian, Leader of Ume team, said that the team has participated in many national competitions to accumulate their strength. They have become more active in preparing for the international competitions and global brand planning competitions than for domestic competitions. She hopes that the team will have the opportunity to participate in international competitions and learn more from all of them.
