Prof. You-Yu Chang of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the "Einstein Cultivation Project" by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Ministry of Science and Technology recently held the MOST Young Scholar Fellowship awarding ceremony. You-Yu Chang, Assistant Professor of the Department of International Business, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the "Einstein Cultivation Project." The honor was presented by the Minister Liang-Ji Cheng, who encouraged the winners to devote themselves to academic research and boldly explore the realm of science. The young scholar cultivation project this year was granted only to two teachers from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and South University of Science and Technology. The one given to South China University of Science and Technology is the first one given to a private university of science and technology.

Prof. You-Yu Chang, who won the “Einstein Cultivation Project," acquired his Ph.D. in science and technology management from Chung Hsing University in 2015. He became a visiting scholar at the Royal Institute of Technology in Melbourne in 2018. In recent years, he has focused his research on maker movement, entrepreneurial behavior, and work curiosity, trying to explore the entrepreneurial spirit of technology makers from the perspective of psychological cognition and organizational system. The topic of his research project is “Maker’s Base and Entrepreneurial Spirit: A View of Innovative Shared Resources,” which explores the prevalent phenomenon of technology makers from the perspective of entrepreneurial ecosystems, trying to find a governance mechanism for the innovative shared resource from the self-governing communities of innovative makers. It further attempts to understand how maker bases and their communities promote knowledge diffusion, collaborative innovation, and practical spirit, thereby stimulating creativity and technological breakthroughs and becoming the cradle of new ventures.

Prof. You-Yu Chang said that it is a great honor to be granted the "Einstein Cultivation Project." He hopes that through this project, he can explore how the governance of the innovative resource-sharing community can enhance the technical problem-solving ability of technology makers and stimulate their entrepreneurship, trying to understand the process of turning amateur technology enthusiasts into entrepreneurs. The expected results will contribute to the evolution of entrepreneurial theory, and it is hoped that the results of the project can help the innovative resource sharing community produce ideas with market value as the technical basis for the follow-up new venture.

President Deng-Maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology further pointed out that despite the impact of declining birth rate, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been committed to innovation in teaching methods in recent years, while it has continued to introduce excellent teachers. Among them, Associate Professor Yong-Ming Huang, who won the Academia Sinica Da-Yao Wu Award, and Assistant Professor You-Yu Chang are among the top ones. Therefore, with the cooperation of excellent teachers and the improvement of teaching effectiveness, the university will continue to improve the performance of its operation and lay a solid foundation for its sustainable development.
