The highest honor of technical and vocational education— the Outstanding Awards of Technological and Vocational Education—has entered its fifteenth session. The ceremony of the light of technical and professional education was held on December 3, 108 at the Trend Plaza on the 5th floor of Taipei Youth Development Office. Minister of Education Wen-Zhong Pan personally praised the outstanding teachers and students. Through the annual awards, the Ministry of Education praised the outstanding technical teachers and students, and promoted the innovation and R & D energy and pragmatic practical characteristics of technical and vocational education. Wei-Shiang Chiu, a PhD student of the Department of Electrical Engineering, won the award of Technical Outstanding Award in Biomedical Engineering, which showed that the university has had a remarkable performance.

Wei-Shiang Chiu (left), a PhD student of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, was awarded "Technical Outstanding Award for Biomedical Engineering Talent." He has been studying the development and application of wearable medical devices and biomedical systems. He was very glad to have met Prof. Yi-Chun Du in his academic life. In addition to help him understand the real clinical needs and learn to apply what he had learned to carry out practical research and development, Prof. Du also taught him what he needed to consider when designing prototypes. The design during commercialization allowed him to quickly build a close link with the industry.

In addition to his solid implementation capabilities, Wei-Shiang Chiu also took into account a wealth of academic foundations. Under the guidance of Prof. Yi-Chun Du of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, he has accumulated 12 national competition awards and 2 patents over the years, won the tenth DSP championship, and was elected as the national representative. He also published in 3 international journals, presented 9 domestic and foreign seminars, and participated in the implementation of 5 Ministry of Science and Technology projects and 6 industry-academia projects.

With his "Smart Listening Solutions," he won the first prize and a prize of NT$ 2 million in the 2nd Longteng Smile Intelligent Networking Startup Competition. In order to remove the inconvenience of using traditional hearing aids, he designed the "Artificial Intelligence Human Voice Separation System Based on Beamforming Technology," with which he won the Diamond Award of the 19th Wanghong Golden Silicon Award Application Group. Currently, many manufacturers working with the STUST Innovative Medical Materials and Care R & D center have asked him to work in their companies after graduation.
