The Department of Marketing and Logistics Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, invited Valas Life-Saving Intelligent Association to promote the preservation of the Bunun traditional culture and environmental protection ecology.

The "Corporate Ethics Program” taught by Prof. Ya-Ling Tsai of the Department of Marketing and Logistics Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, recently invited Mr. Kong-Zhi Chou, Director of the Valas Life-Saving Association, to make a speech at the university. "Life-Saving Association" is located in Namashia Township, Kaohsiung County, with the purpose to preserve the Bunun traditional culture, living animals and plants, and inherit the wisdom handed down from ancestors, helping people learn to collect plants and make lives sustainable.

In his speech, Director Zhou explained how the Bunun people used to hunt flying squirrels and wild deer as materials for scarves and hooks. Shu-Fang Lin, Manager of the association showed how to use goat horns to make crochet needles, planting and collecting green ramie as the material after processing in order to hook sturdy bags. The sturdy bags include women's bags and men's bags; the production of a bag only costs at least one year. Women's bags are used by Bunun mothers to feed their newborns, while men's bags are used by Bunun young men to hunt and prey. Valas is also committed to environmental protection on the Namashia Mountain, while they have been doing firefly restoration work for a long time. Their sharing made the students feel quite amazed.

In this speech, Director Chou integrated the connotation of environmental protection and ecology into the corporate ethics course, and taught Bunun songs in the course. The students participated in the course and gave a very good evaluation of this course. In addition to the inheritance of Bunun culture, he had a better understanding of the importance of ecological protection and conservation.

Zhi-Ming Huang, Director of the Department of Marketing and Logistics Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that the university has always attached great importance to and taught students to fulfill the social responsibilities of the university. It is hoped that students will have a deep understanding of multicultural development in curriculum planning and that this way of lecturing will expand students’ vision. He look forward to bringing the multicultural industry to the campus, and he hope that the university can provide assistance to the multicultural industry to achieve the vision of symbiosis and co-prosperity with the locality.

President Deng-Maw Lu said that multicultural participation and ecological conservation responsibility are very important. Young people should be encouraged to participate more and jointly build a peaceful society that emphasizes environmental conservation and ethnic integration.
