STUST's competitive cheerleading team won the title of the 2021 Taichung Mayor Cup Cheerleading Championship in the college mixed team group championship with its outstanding performance.

The Cheerleading Team of STUST recently won the title of the college mixed team group in the 2021 National Cheerleading Championship and Taichung Mayor's Cup Cheerleading Championship, organized by the Taichung Cheerleading Association and the Republic of China Cheerleading Association at the National Sports Center of Taichung City in its North District, with its outstanding performance. In response to the pandemic prevention regulations, the competition was conducted on-site in accordance with the guidelines of the Central Pandemic Prevention Center. All personnel were registered with real names to maintained social distancing, regularly disinfected with alcohol, and wore masks throughout the entire process to implement various pandemic prevention tasks.

The competition included two events: competitive cheerleading competition system and cheerleading competition system. A total of 61 teams signed up for the competition. Due to the pandemic situation, the competition had been postponed until late October and held at the National Sports Center in Taichung City, allowing the players to continue their participation in the events and show their the results of their training to their hearts’ content.

The STUST's athletic cheerleading team was originally formed in the 109 academic year. Due to the impact of the pandemic, the uncertainty of event delays, and many senior graduates facing military service and employment issues, they had to reluctantly make a decision to give up the competition. However, the competitive cheerleaders still keep discussing with the coaches during the summer vacation to allow the participating team to regroup, modify the training plan and draft a new competition process, and re-establish a tacit understanding with the new players, and then train hard to participate in the competitions in the second half of the year.

Feng-Tsen Tsai, Captain of the STUST's athletic cheerleading team, said that this competition was the first competition he led after being elected as the captain. Despite the impact of the pandemic, the opportunity was left to him, who was ready for the team! The competitive cheerleading team will be united and get prepared to face all the competitions in the second half of the year. Next, the 2020 College Cheerleading Championship sponsored by the National Sports Association of the Republic of China has been postponed to the end of November. The STUST Cheerleading team will start intensive training immediately after returning to the school. He hopes that the players can continue to maintain their brilliant achievements and bring back honors for the school, leaving a perfect heritage for the team.

Deng-Maw Lu, President of STUST, said that due to Taiwan's outstanding performance in the Tokyo Olympics this year and its increased visibility all over the world, domestic sports activities have received much attention. The competitive cheerleading team has entered its 20th year since it was founded in 1990. It is a long-standing physical club of STUST. It is hoped that this competition will lay the foundation for many future events and accumulate experiences. In addition to their academic duties, students can also improve their professional skills as players in sports, uphold their enthusiasm in sports, and inherit the fascinating sportsmanship of cheerleading as well as their never-give-up spirit.
