The College of Humanities and Social Sciences, STUST, held the 2022 Bilingual Education, Innovative Teaching and Assessment Conference

STUST held an achievement presentation for the Food Safety and Hygiene Management System Project for Tainan City on November 3. The event invited Mayor Wei-zhe Huang of Tainan City Government to deliver a speech in the opening ceremony. The presentation showed the achievement of the Food Safety and Hygiene Management System Project this year and commended the excellent model operators of the year. At the same time, the 2022 Tainan City Food and Beverage Hygiene Quality Certification and Low-Carbon Restaurant Charter were held to praise and encourage excellent catering operators for providing consumers with high-quality choices. It is hoped that through this mechanism of positive encouragement, more food businesses will be encouraged to learn, observe, and strengthen their self-management and food safety as well as improve their management effectiveness and industry competitiveness, so that consumers can eat without any worries.

Tainan (Fucheng) is an important center of Taiwanese food and food supply chain. In order to maintain food safety, it is also necessary for industry operators to improve their self-management capabilities and build a sound system, in addition to establishing and improving food safety policies and the government's actual implementation of food safety regulations. Only a great management system of food safety can ensure food safety and health protection for Tainan citizens. The Bureau of Public Health, Tainan City Government, cooperated with STUST, resources of food safety from the industry, and professionals from academic research to jointly build a food safety protection network of government supervision and management, guidance of education and research, and self-management enhancement of the industry. This management system of food safety controls food safety in Tainan City to reduce food safety risks and establish the goal of upholding self-management and sustainable operation.

STUST has implemented the Food Safety and Hygiene Management System Project, commissioned by the Bureau of Public Health, Tainan City Government, for six consecutive years to provide on-site counseling on the self-management of the operators and assist the bureau to carry out the 2022 catering hygiene management classification assessment work. The operators who successfully pass the assessment will be awarded "Excellence Label" or "Good Label" according to the assessment results. The project follows the Central Food Raw Material Origin Labeling Policy and continues to provide guidance on the labeling of agricultural and livestock products that requires the origin of raw materials to be specified on labels. It also promotes and assists shops and stores to complete the correct origin labeling, as a reference for consumers in choosing a store of food safety.

A total of 194 catering operators participated in the catering hygiene assessment this time. In the achievement presentation meeting, restaurants were awarded certificates, "Excellent Label," and "Good Label." In addition to publishing the list of excellent hygiene operators on its official website, the Bureau of Public Health, Tainan City Government, also recognized and identified excellent operators on the "Tainan City Food Safety Management Platform," with their information displayed on google map along with their storefront street views, providing a reference for tourists and consumers for choices. In the future, it is hoped that more catering operators who are committed to improving the quality of meals will join the ranking of operator with excellent hygiene. This will promote the quality of Tainan food industry and provide consumers with safe and healthy food in Tainan.

Deng-mao Lu, President of STUST, said that STUST has invested its school resources and professional manpower for six consecutive years. In the future, STUST will continue to fulfill its social responsibilities, work on sustainable development, assist the Tainan City Government to strengthen the self-management capabilities of food businesses, and establish a food safety network to reduce food safety risks. This year, Bingchun Bakery was chosen to be an operator with excellent hygiene, which had been coached and had made great improvement. In the presentation meeting, the bakery was invited to display its high-quality products at the presentation venue for the guests to taste, share the results of their efforts and the joy of winning, and serve as a model for food industry to learn from.
