Students from the Department of Hospitality Management of STUST won the first, second and third place of the Social Group in the Fresh Cream Fruit Decorated Cake Category of the 2024 GÂTEAUX Cup Taiwan Cake Skills Competition

The Department of Hospitality Management, STUST, recently participated in the 2024 (23rd) GÂTEAUX Cup Taiwan Cake Skills Competition, organized by the Taiwan Cake Association, winning the first, second and third place in the Fresh Cream Fruit Decorated Cake Category. Yi-rong Li won the first place, Hui-zhen Tsai won the second place, and Yi-jing Zhuang won the third place. It was a great victory.

The 23rd GÂTEAUX Cup Taiwan Cake Skills Competition in 2024 was divided into Professional groups, Social groups, and Student groups. The competition items were marzipan decorated cakes, sugar pulling art and crafts, sugar flower art and crafts, chocolate crafts, and mousse. There are 12 items, including cakes, rice flour cakes, pastries and chocolates, room temperature cakes, fondant molding art cakes, cupcakes, fresh cream fruit decorated cakes and biscuit pastries, which were mainly based on healthy competitions and skill exchanges. The two highest-scoring champions will represent Taiwan in the Tokyo competition in Japan, which is an internationally-standard learning stage for domestic players to challenge different types of cake techniques every year.

In addition to winning the first, second, and third places in the Fresh Cream Fruit Decorated Cake Category, Yi-han Hsu from the Department of Hospitality Management, STUST, also won the third place in the Rice Flour Cake Category. Jia-lin Guo won the Excellent Work Award of the Biscuits and Pastries Category, and Jing-shiang Su won the Excellent Work Award of the Pastries and Chocolates Category. Prof. Zheng-sheng Lin led his students from the Department of Hospitality Management to participate in various categories of categories, with the purpose to train students to be able to integrate with the industry's business product model in the future and to always remind students of the importance of technology, professional skills, and marketing. The participating students said they were very grateful to the judges for their recognition, which let them know that the skills they had been practicing in the school classroom were not in vain. They were also grateful to Jia-sheng Yeh, Chair of the department, Prof. Zheng-sheng Lin, and their family for their constantly encouraging and supporting them during their preparations for the competition. They also said that they would continue to work hard in the direction of professional skills in the future.

Jia-sheng Yeh, Chair of the Department of Hospitality Management at STUST, believes that STUST students can learn in the department about flavor matching, understanding of baking materials, combination and application of ingredients principles, decoration and color matching techniques, and product design and packaging details that are valued in the industry. Prof. Zheng-sheng Lin provides students with professional guidance with rich practical experience, which is an important key for students to overcome difficulties and setbacks. In addition, the department promotes teamwork to achieve the spirit of mutual assistance. The learning effect is different from previous individual exercises and has better results.
