STUST successfully held the 2024 Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on September 26, attracting the enthusiastic participation of more than 200 experts and scholars from domestic industry, government, and academia. This forum, with the theme of "International Geopolitical and Economic Trends and Competitive Development of Science and Technology Policies", invited Mo-si Li, Senior Consultant of the Foreign Trade Association, Hong Chang, Associate Researcher of Chinese Taipei Pacific Economic Cooperation Committee, and Bo-zhou Chang, Manager of Dongyouda Nanotechnology Co., Ltd. as well as Professor Jun-lin Guo and Professor Neil Edward Barrett from STUST to share their latest observations on international geopolitical economy and technological development, together with a lively discussion with the audience.

In his opening speech, Vice President Zhen-chian Wang of STUST thanked the Chinese Taipei Pacific Economic Cooperation Committee (CTPECC) for its support, which made this event successfully held and allowed the industry, government and academia in the southern region to have a deeper understanding of the current development status of the Asia-Pacific region. Vice President Wang specifically mentioned that the AI issue in the forum is one of the key areas that STUST is currently actively developing. STUST is one of the 25 sponsoring universities of the "Taiwan AI Alliance" and is committed to promoting the research and application of artificial intelligence.

Vice President Wang further pointed out that Dr. Cheng-wen Wu, Chairman of the National Science Council, was the president of STUST. During his tenure, he opened the "Smart Manufacturing Technology Center," "Smart Health Medical Technology Center," "Sports Technology Center," "Smart Green Energy Center," and "Smart Electric Vehicle Technology Center." These five major technology centers, based on artificial intelligence, have laid a solid foundation for the STUST's AI development. Vice President Wang showed his hope that STUST’s efforts in the field of AI will provide strong technical support and applications to industries in the south and even across the country in the future.

The forum was hosted by CTPECC and co-organized by the Department of International Enterprise of STUST. CTPECC Secretary-General Jun-bin Hsu said that CTPECC holds the Asia-Pacific Regional Forum across the country every year, aiming to build a communication bridge between domestic industry, government and academia. By discussing major issues, it not only promotes the dissemination of knowledge, but also hopes to collect opinions and opinions from all walks of life on related trends. Suggestions shall be used as a reference for research work and provided to relevant government departments in a timely manner.
