The STUST's Carbon Storage and Fishing USR team organized the 2024 KidWind Wind Energy Competition and 2024 Science Popularization Train around the Island to trigger the enthusiasm of green energy rookies

The USR project team of STUST—Carbon Storage and Fishing: Sustainable Net-Zero Development Plan of Cross-border Integration of Green Electric Energy Creation and Smart Breeding in the Ancient Capital of Tuchengzai—recently co-organized the 2024 KidWind Wind Energy Competition for Southern Taiwan with the Asia-Pacific Energy Science Education Association. It also set up scientific booths at the 2024 Science Popularization Train around the Island event, hosted by the National Science and Technology Commission. Through an entertaining and educational approach, the team not only successfully promoted green energy education, but also allowed primary and secondary school students to gain an in-depth understanding of the principles of wind power generation and stimulate their interest in green energy.

The KidWind Wind Energy Competition, which is held around the world, uses practical competitions to encourage elementary, middle and high school students to invest in wind turbine design. The 2024 KidWind Competition for Southern Taiwan was held at the Sanlian Hall of STUST, where many primary and secondary school teams from Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung gathered to compete for tickets to the Asian League. The Green Electric Rock Maker Research Society, founded by the Carbon Storage and Fishing Project team, served as a staff member throughout the competition to make the event move forward, assisting in recording data and leading the contestants to test the performance of their homemade wind turbines in the wind tunnel set up on site.

De-guang Chou, Acting President of STUST, highly affirmed the students' participation. He pointed out that the world is facing an important moment of energy transition, and the development of wind energy plays a key role. It is very gratifying to see students applying what they learned in class into practice and showing endless creativity. STUST will continue to provide students with a high-quality learning environment, cultivate more green energy technology talents, and contribute to Taiwan's sustainable development.

In the “2024 Science Popularization Train around the Island” event, sponsored by the National Science Council, the Carbon Storage and Fishing Team was responsible for setting up an interactive science popularization booth at Chiaotou Station. They used briefings and physical displays of wind turbines to allow participating primary school students to listen, answer questions and make practical observations. Participants were deeply impressed by the knowledge and structural parts of fans. Among them, Yi-de Shi, a senior student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering who participated in the booth explanation, took a science train when he was in elementary school. He was deeply impressed by the scientific experience combined with the interesting content of the train journey. Now as a college student, he is actually applying what he has learned. Returning to the popular science train event and becoming a booth commentator, the transformation from a participant to a knowledge disseminator demonstrates the effectiveness of talent cultivation in higher education combined with the value of social responsibility.
