The Department of Visual Communication Design is known for its cross-media innovation, effectively blending tools such as graphic design, digital media, and motion graphics. Prof. Chian-fan Liu and Prof. Hong-yuan Chen jointly mentored students Ming-zhen Yu, Hui-ting Guo, and Bo-yu Chen in the creation of “Furry – Anxi,” a story addressing appearance-related anxiety. The narrative follows puppet characters exploring their environment, eventually seeking transformation in response to external influences. By combining live-action footage with virtual puppets, the work creates an immersive mixed-reality world and earned the Best Character Design Award in the Experimental and Mixed Media Animation Group. In another impressive entry, “Soldier,” developed under the guidance of Prof. Yi-feng Gao by students Jun-yu Ke, Rui-huan Shie, Yun-zhen Huang, Yan-li Chiu, Zi-lun Hsu, and Feng-ji Yang, uses metaphors to explore themes of obedience and forgotten intentions. Its unique concept earned shortlist recognition in both the Animation and Cross-domain categories.

President Neng-fu Huang of STUST emphasized the university’s ongoing commitment to integrating creative design with technological application. The institution continues to invest heavily in teaching resources while promoting industry-university collaboration and competition participation, thereby cultivating students with strong practical skills in digital design.
