Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) recently held its 2025 Fall Semester New Student Orientation and Chinese Language Experience, which attracted over a hundred international students from 28 countries. The event aimed to help the newcomers learn about southern Taiwan’s culture and provide them with essential information about living in Taiwan and on campus. This helps them adapt smoothly to the new semester and start their university journey on a positive note. Vice President Hung-Te Chang led the Dean of International Affairs and the deans of various colleges in interacting with students from Germany, Austria, France, Japan, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Mongolia. This demonstrated STUST’s dedication to promoting cross-cultural exchange and creating a welcoming and friendly learning environment where international students can study with ease.

In addition to introducing each college’s unique features, course resources, and information on living in Taiwan, the event also featured a variety of cultural experiences. The Beauty of Culture Zone allowed students to practice Chinese calligraphy, experiencing the art of writing and the unique charm of Chinese culture. The STUST Exclusive Experience Zone featured tote bag design, encouraging students to get creative and incorporate Taiwanese and foreign cultural elements into their work. The Study in Taiwan Experience Zone integrated travel and tourism information with campus resources to help students get a comprehensive grasp of their academic and daily lives. STUST hopes that by combining orientation with cultural experiences, international students can quickly adapt to life in Taiwan while gaining a deeper appreciation for the country’s diverse culture, starting an unforgettable learning journey.

Dual-degree students from European sister schools, the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences in Germany and Johannes Kepler University in Austria, shared their excitement about studying at STUST. They are happy to experience a different learning and living environment and interact with students from various countries. An Indonesian student shared that choosing to study Chinese at the STUST Chinese Language Center has proved to be the right decision, as the teachers are professional and patient, helping them gain a lot from the learning process.

This fall, international students are enrolled in various departments across different colleges. The Global Master of Business Administration (GMBA) in the College of Business and Management and the all-English courses in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering in the College of Engineering are particularly popular. The College of Business and Management has been accredited by AACSB International, placing it among the top 6% of business schools worldwide. The GMBA program offers diverse opportunities for overseas study, allowing students to participate in exchange programs or pursue dual degrees at partner universities. This makes graduates highly competitive globally, preparing them for various global management positions. The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering focuses on smart technology applications, with courses covering mobile device programming, AR/VR, IoT, and smart systems. The department also actively promotes the development of an AI campus and engages in various cross-disciplinary AI collaborations to cultivate talent with both professional skills and an international perspective.
