March 24th is World Tuberculosis Day. In recent years, the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in Taiwan has shown a long-term and stable downward trend, decreasing significantly from 72.5 cases per 100,000 people in 2005 to 26.2 cases per 100,000 people in 2024, a cumulative decrease of 64%, with an average annual decrease of about 5%-6%, and the prevention and control effect is better than the global average. However, sporadic cases still occur. It is important to remember that TB is curable. "Seek medical attention immediately if you have a cough for more than two weeks." Self-monitoring for symptoms such as "cough for more than two weeks (2 points), phlegm (2 points), chest pain (1 point), weight loss (1 point), loss of appetite (1 point)" should raise concern. Use the "7-point screening method" for self-testing; if the total score for symptoms reaches 5 or more, seek medical attention immediately for examination to ensure early detection and regular treatment.
