The reason why STUST Library set up the “Snack Reading Zone” is to enable teachers and students to have a functional space for reading, snacks, and communication in the library, creating a reading atmosphere. The idea is, through this simple sharing of the joy of reading, to bring plain and precious universal values to people and cultivate in them the habit of reading and loving books. In addition, the library also organized the "Bring Books Home" give-away activity to find a second home for donated books and duplicated textbooks and other books, etc. It is hoped that this kind of activity can really make book-reading deeply rooted in people's minds, thereby cultivating personal temperament, influencing the social atmosphere, and creating a scholarly society. In addition to book give-away activities, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology Library also has a wealth of paper and electronic collections, as well as many innovative equipment that students like; for example, the “Information Sharing Learning Zone” that facilitates readers’ voice discussion and exchanges across the entire floor. There are also 3D cinema, VR virtual reality, digital piano borrowing, XBOX, PS4 somatosensory game area, board games, etc.

President Deng-Maw Lu delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, saying that the strength of a country comes from the number of people studying. Before that, he had seen a film showing that education was the major reason why Germany was able to re-emerge into a big country again after World War II--over the decades in Germany, parents and children all liked to read. Hungary has had 8 Nobel Prize winners; every one of the country reads an average of 76 books every year. Now one may not read as many as an average of 0.76 book each year in Taiwan. The country with the second highest average is Israel, with everyone reading 69 books a year. The reason why the country is very strong is that the people there have great education and the books are read very widely and frequently. It is hoped that through the library's new ideas, the teachers and students of the school will have time to spend a lot of time in Snack Reading Zone to enjoy a slice of the soul feast, reading comfortably to enrich themselves. In the future, it is necessary to use the “Snack Reading Zone” as a base for administrative staffers, teachers, and students to read books and continue to inspire the reading atmosphere of the campus.
