Officials of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia and presidents of Indonesian polytechnic universities visited Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, which showed its R&D achievements to make the world see its presence.

In response to the government’s promotion of its new southbound policy, Mr. Ir Hari Purwanto, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, led a delegation of 16 people to Taiwan to visit the technical and vocational universities in Taiwan to understand the system and characteristics of universities of science and technology, hoping that such understanding would help improve the opportunities for future cooperation with Taiwan’s technical universities. The delegation visited Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology on May 3. President Deng-Maw Lu was responsible for the reception, accompanied by Deputy Dean Ching-Feng Mao of Academic Affairs Office, Deputy Dean Jun-Shian Chiu of the College of Engineering, Director Yong-Peng Wang of International and Cross-strait Affairs Office, and Chairman Ming-Shian Wang of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Deputy Chairman Nai-Shang Liu of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Prof. Chi-Chou Wang of the Department of Electronic Engineering.

The visiting members included the Senior Advisor of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, the chairman of the National Technical Vocational School Association, Indonesia, and presidents of several polytechnic universities. Yong-Peng Wang, Director of the Office of International Affairs of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, introduced the school profile, curriculum, and cooperation projects with Indonesia. The meeting discussed the possibility of future cooperation between STUST and several polytechnic universities in Indonesia. The event also arranged for Indonesian lecturers who are studying at the doctoral program of the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of mechanical engineering to communicate with visiting guests and share their experience of studying at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology.

After the exchange and discussion, the delegation visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, and the Department of Information Engineering. They were offered a particular exhibition of research achievements in the areas of automation, biomedical sciences, industry 4.0, and IOT, where a directors, teachers, Indonesian doctoral students, and local students presented the results of their research.

The Indonesian officials and university presidents were highly impressed and praised the R&D achievements and teaching equipment of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. They also expressed great hope that they would have the opportunity to cooperate with Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology in the future. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology welcomed their willingness to have further cooperation. In the future, STUST will actively promote the cooperation with Indonesian polytechnic universities in 2+2 courses and continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, develop teacher training courses, and continue to support the New Southward Policy of our government.
