Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won first prize and third prize in the 2018 National Chem-E-Car Championship.

The 2018 National Chemical E-Car Competition, sponsored by the National Defense University and the Taiwan Chemical Engineering Society was held at the National Defense University of Science and Technology. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology sent seven teams to participate. Among them, the five teams won the awards, so the results were fruitful and the performance was outstanding. The Chemical E-Car Competition has been held in various countries around the world. It has entered the 17th year in Taiwan. This year, a total of 57 teams from all universities and colleges participated in the competition. The competition consisted of performance and poster competitions.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology performed brilliantly in this competition. The team “Reading without Reply Results in Regret,” directed by Prof. Tsang -Ning Huang, won first place in the national championship. After several months of making great efforts, adjusting the car conditions and various parameters, they stood out in the fierce competition. Another competitive team, also directed by Prof. Huang, won third place in the national championship, was “DejaVu” consisting of students from the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering. The team "What to Eat for Dinner?" from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won fourth place in the national championship. The team "What to Eat for Lunch?" from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won fifth place in the championship. In addition, the team "STUST Rockets" won second place in the styling competition and seventh place in the performance competition.

The award ceremony were held on November 9-10 at Yunlin University of Science and Technology, together with the 2018 Taiwan Chemical Engineering Society as the 65th Anniversary Annual Meeting and National Science Conference Chemical Science Achievements Presentation Conference.

Chairman Hong-Ru Lin of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology attaches great importance to this competition. Every year, it provides students with sufficient funds to conduct practical training and participate in the "Chem-E-Car Competition. Their teams wins a lot of prizes every year in E-Chem Car Competition. It is a great achievement to win the championship again, along with four of the top five prizes in the overall championship. All the teachers and students of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering are honored and will continue to work hard in the future to have even better results.
