"Ume," a team formed by students from the Department of International Business, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the 2018 Innovation x Entrepreneurship x Business Plan Competition for Colleges and Universities, organized by National Chinyi University of Technology.

The winner team Ume was formed by Hui-Ying Chen, Jia-Hui Jian, Tin-Yu Huang, Yi- Zhen Lin, Yan-Ling Liang, and Chun-Yu Chen, jointly directed by Associate Professor Wei-Zhen Yang of the Department of International Business and Associate Professor Jia-Jun Lin of the Department of Visual Communication Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. In their business plan for the competition, the team encompasses their marketing strategy and financial planning for a period of five and a half years in three stages—short, medium and long-terms to present “Plum Bottle,” a work of practical art designed by Associate Professor Jia-Jun Lin, which is the main commodity at the beginning of the business plan. From developing products, finding manufacturers, selling to selling goods, and responding to environmental protection, the team designed a complete environmental-friendly process of production and sales for commercialization.

In the competition, the Ume team was able to present a complete commercial module and implementation, coupled with their superior on-the-spot presentation performance and teamwork, won the favor of all the judges and great acclaim.

Prof. Wei-Zhen Yang, instructor of the award-winning team of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has long encouraged students to break through the restrictions of the department, promote cross-disciplinary courses, and promote innovative and creative activities, so that students can actively participate in internal and external competitions for creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and eventually achieved remarkable results. In order to inspire students' creativity and innovation, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology holds three activities every year, allowing students to think about and seek the ideal entrepreneurial models. The school also helps student develop their concept and ability in terms of entrepreneurial foundation. The award-winning Ume team was also the winner of the competition between the School of Business Administration and the Digital Design Institute. After a long term training, their showed great strength in the national competition and won the championship.
