South Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the 49th National Bakery Skills Competition of Southern District.

The 49th National Bakery Skills Competition of Southern District announced its results recently. Yu-Hua Wu of the Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won first prize in the Professional Production Category with her work “Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Wolf," under the guidance of Prof. Hong-Ru Tsai. A total of 36 contestants participated in the competition. The design concept of Yu-Hua Wu’s bakery art was based on the scenario that the big wolf saw Little Red Riding Hood in the forest. The big wolf used as an excuse to approach her that he hid in the dark to protect the Little Red Riding Hood. In fact, the wolf was hiding in the dark while he kept thinking about eating the girl. This was the story she employed to present this work.

Yu-Hua Wu said that in order to realize her design concept, she kept encountering setbacks in the process of bakery production. Thanks to her teachers’ help, she finally overcame the difficulties and completed the work. The school kept providing her with equipment while all the teachers supported her in all due respect. In particular, with the encouragement and guidance of Chair Mei-Lan Lin and Prof. Hong-Ru Tsai, she eventually won first prize in the 49th National Skills Competition of Southern Division.

In addition, Ting-Yi Lin won an excellence award in the Dessert Production Category of the 49th National Bakery Skills Competition of Southern District with her work of chocolate craftsmanship “Chinese and Art Culture.” The creation of Ting-Yi Lin was based on the image of dragon-and-lion dancing in traditional Chinese culture, with firecrackers and Spring Festival couplets showing great excitement and happy atmosphere. Zhi-An Chen won another excellence award in the Bread Making Category. The hardest part of bread-making art is to control the heat and the final assembly. Zhi-An Chen said that she would like to thank Prof. Tsai for her encouragement and guidance. She also thanked the school for providing an excellent environment and sufficient resources for her to learn and grow. The competition was for her to show her cumulative performance. The competition was for her great asset for a lifetime.
