The 2019 Tainan Painting Generation Animation Film Festival was hosted by the Department of Information and International Relations, Tainan City Government. The theme of "Tainan" and "Animation" was used as a medium of creation, calling students from colleges and universities across the country to participate in the contest. The student's enrollment activity was opened in June. A total of nearly 100 projects from 23 schools were registered. After the mid-January mid-term review plan and briefing, the finalists were selected. After 4 months of creation and production, the listed works were reviewed in May, and an award ceremony and exhibition was held at the Tainan Zhenshanmei Theater. Under the guidance of the teachers, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won many awards, including first prize, second prize, two excellency awards, and awards for the best drama, the best technique, the best characterization, the best art, and the judges’ appreciation. It won a total of 8 awards, becoming the biggest winner.

The first prize and the Best Drama Award were won by the team jointly directed by Prof. Chian-Fan Liu, Prof. Chun-Hong Liu, and Prof. Suo-Jun Huang with their work “House to Hold Back the Year.” The concept of the work came from the story of the founder of Fucheng Jianyu, which was transformed into a performance of the relationship between grandparent and their grandchildren, expressed by real frozen shots of animation to show a sense of reality and present the warm atmosphere of the story. The second prize and the Best Technology Award was won by the team jointly directed by Prof. Ya-Shue Li, Prof. Chun-Hong Liu, and Prof. Suo-Jun Huang with their work “Encounter.” The concept of the work is told from the perspective of a little girl to show the complex production process of traditional cousin in Tainan. The story is lively and interesting, conveying the idea of perpetuation of generations.

The works "Old Lanes" and "Faith Brings Heart" were awarded Excellency Awards; the work "Ink Painting" won all the awards for the best technique, the best characterization, the best art, and the judges’ special prize. The work was amazing, appropriate for the theme and well received by the judges. .

Deputy Dean Guo-Li Huang of the College of Digital Design said that the theme of the graduation project of the Department Visual Communication Design has been extended to the theme of Tainan. Through animation, their works make people feel the rich cultural appearance of Tainan in the past; through the experience of the environment in which they have been living, their works observe and scribble the moving things of the Tainan City. Their video works have shown the best touch the viewers, combining their observations and learning and applying them in their implementation, which has been quite effective over the past years.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has spared no effort in cultivating students' creativity. Director Ching-An Wang said that the school has been committed to promoting Tainan Culture. This time students were actively participating in the competition, so that the energy of design and creation cultivated by the school was affirmed. By participating in the competition, students can explore deeper into the local culture and present stories exclusively belonging to Tainan through their films.
