Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Chimei Hospital, and the NCKU teamed up winning the Second Longteng Smile Intelligent Network Entrepreneurship Competition and NT$ 2 million.

Prof. Wei-Feng Liu, jointly employed by the Department of Information Engineering and Chimei Hospitality, Prof. Yu-Chun Du of the Department of Electrical Department, Ph.D. student Wei-Shiang Chiu, and Fan-Ting Chen from the Department of Medical Engineering—all these teachers formed an interdisciplinary team—Cyper S. Recently, under the guidance of the SPARK project of NCKU, the team brought out their "Intelligent Hearing Solution," which effectively integrated clinical needs, key technology development, system integration, and business planning, to participated in the Second Longteng Smile Intelligent Network Entrepreneurship Competition, winning the first prize and NT$ 2 million.

Longteng Smile Intelligent Network Entrepreneurship Competition is hosted by the Acer Foundation. Since 2017, the original Longteng Smile Entrepreneurship Competition" has been transformed into Longteng Smile Smart Intelligent Entrepreneurship Competition, mainly in response to Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Cloud Computing, and Hardware Device, as well as the competition for the coming of the era and the development of the future of the industry, with intelligent networking as the theme of the competition. This competition is more important to meet the needs of the disadvantaged groups and solve environmental problems. The participating teams must actively use the thinking mode of the intelligent network to find solutions to various problems. A total of 411 students from 102 teams were formed across universities, competing for a venture capital of near NT$ 4 million.

The "Intelligent Hearing Solution" is a hearing system that enhances the quality of life of the hearing impaired and hearing-degraded groups. It integrates the intelligence of the optic nerve and the nerves to innovate product design, combined with artificial intelligence image recognition system, overcomes the technical bottleneck of multiple human languages and radio noise reduction (Cocktail Party Effect), strengthening the sound quality of complex scenes. This innovative medical material provides a complete and immediate solution that immediately replaces existing products or traditional hearing aids.

President Deng-Maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) and student practical skills training have always been the teaching direction that the university attaches great importance to. STUST also encourages teams to work across schools and departments to apply cross-disciplinary knowledge to everyday life and to advance social issues in a variety of face-to-face practical issues. The interaction among Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Chimei Medical Center, and the SPARK team of UCKU has always been very close.

In recent years, under the leadership of the College of Engineering, the Chimei Medical Center has extended many artificial intelligence applications for clinical cooperation. The award-winning program was also fostered through the support of relevant programs, under the efforts of Prof. Wei-Feng Liu and Prof. Yu-Chun Du of the Department of Electrical Engineering. In the future, STUST will continue this kind of planning, providing abundant resources and teachers to organize various inter-school and interdisciplinary teams, so that students can cultivate their ability of interdisciplinary cooperation in addition to solid practical skills training. In the face of the changes at the speed of light in technology and industry, STUST looks forward to the future where they can quickly find our own way of survival in the international challenges.
