Department of Leisure, Recreation and Tourism Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won third place in the 2019 National Leisure and Health Cup Program Designing Competition.

College of Health Technology, National Taipei University of Nursing Health Sciences, recently held the 2019 National Leisure and Health Cup Program Designing Competition. The team "FIT" (find illness out) of the Department of Leisure, Recreation and Tourism Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, was led by Professor Ying-Ren Pan, which stood out of the 53 teams nationwide from all over the country and won third place. This year the competition focused on “special ethnic groups and medical tourism” as the main axis of the program designing. It was hoped that the competition could enhance the knowledge of leisure and health tourism planning for college students, help students understand the diversity and uniqueness of leisure tourism resources in Taiwan, and inspire students to leisure and healthy tourism. Through open competitions in leisure and health travel, the competition aimed at drawing more attention from industries and scholars in related industries to innovative leisure and health travelling in Taiwan.

The team "FIT" (find illness out) of the Department of Leisure, Recreation and Tourism Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and The 2019 National Leisure and Health Cup Program Designing Competition, organized by College of Health Technology, National Taipei University of Nursing Health Sciences, has been held for the fifth year. This competition was based on Taiwan's tourism planning, including food, culture, nostalgia, hot springs , natural scenery, theme parks, and other popular tourism issues. There were many types of package products, but fewer itinerary competitions for caregivers, micro-medicines or special ethnic groups.

The team "FIT," under the guidance of Ying-Ren Pan from the Department of Leisure, Recreation and Tourism Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, comprised health and leisure elements of five major features, including medical health check-ups, hot spring experience, Hakka culture, health food, and enjoyment of Fendor. In terms of accommodation, the team also arranged hot spring resorts to allow tourists to enjoy the various therapeutic effects of hot springs. The itinerary took care of health and well-being related to food, living, and walking, allowing tourists to completely relax themselves and eliminate the fatigue of their bodies.

The instructor, Assistant Professor Ying-Ren Pan, pointed out that the Chinese market, which had disappeared due to political factors and that Taiwan now needs to open another tourism channel. The health checkup medical visa only requires three working days of health checkup tourism. When this is combined with Taiwan's unique hot spring tourism resources, along with high-level medical care and competitive niche of high quality and low cost, it can offer the most promising opportunities to break through the political barrier and create a new market for mainlanders to travel to Taiwan. Hui-Ling Chen, Director of the Department of Leisure, Recreation, Tourism Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, pointed out that students are actively encouraged to participate in various competitions. In addition to incorporating and using classroom theory, they can also gain practical experience through competitions and enhance competition among peers. The planning ability of the tour allows students to apply what they have learned to become a professional tour planning and interpreting talent.

Deng-Maw Lu, President of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology attaches great importance to students' practical skills. While the theoretical explanation brings only the structure and concepts, future education, rather than being limited to a single aspect, requires cross-disciplinary cooperative learning. The research on "special ethnic groups, health care, tourism and tourism" has implemented creative ideas into innovative journeys. Students can directly enter the workplace and be seamlessly integrated into the industry after graduation, which can further promote the development opportunities of entrepreneurship.
