Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the award of ”Excellent Institution of Industry-University Cooperation” by the Chinese Society of Engineers, R.O.C. for the 9th consecutive year.

The 2020 joint annual meeting of the Chinese Society of Engineers and Specialized Engineering Societies recently held the "Meet the 5G New Era and Create a New Life in AI" activity at Chunghwa Telecom. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the award of ”Excellent Institution of Industry-University Cooperation” for the 9th consecutive year.

The Chinese Society of Engineers R.O.C. is the domestic engineering academic organization with the longest history and the largest scale in Taiwan. In order to strengthen the exchange between Taiwan and international engineering professionals, improve the domestic environment for engineering education, encourage outstanding young students to contribute their talents, and promote public and private institutions and schools, the society has been playing an important promoter of cooperation. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been affirmed for nine consecutive years by the award ”Excellent Institution of Industry-University Cooperation” from the Chinese Society of Engineers since 1993.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has self-positioned as the "University of Science and Technology to be the best partner for international and industrial organization." It is developing to be an "industrial university" as the main axis of its development, aiming to cultivate "international practical talents with international mobility" as its educational goal. Its all-round education methods and industry-university performance have been recognized by all parties, with its the students greatly favored by business owners. It has won first place in the category of private university of science and technology in Cheers magazine’s "Business Favorite College Student Survey." From 2006 to 2017, it received continuous subsidies from the Ministry of Education's Teaching Excellence Program, with a total of NT$ 813.81 million, ranked second among the National University of Science and Technology. The third phase of the Ministry of Education's Teaching Excellence Program provided a one-off grant for the only private university of science and technology for four years (2013-2016). From 2012 to 2017, it successively received subsidies from the University of Science and Technology Development Model Program, the Ministry of Education, with a total of NT$ 522 million, ranked first in the country among all the private universities of science and technology. It also achieved good results in the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program, which was launched in 2018. From 2018 to 2019, it received a total of NT$ 356.33 million as subsidies, ranked first among private universities of science and technology. With such abundant research capacity and industry-academic resources, it has won this award for nine consecutive years.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology upheld the concept of "Being ahead, we must be the best!" It has been constantly improving its teaching research and innovation and strengthening its capacity of industry-university cooperation. The performance highlights of this award-winning exhibition included technological innovation, derivative businesses, industry-university co-construction, and patent research and development. The significant parts of its performance included the micro-molecule medicine for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease developed by Prof. Yi-Ren Su from the Department of Food and Biotechnology, which successfully raised NT$ 260 million to establish a derivative company—Merry Life Biomedical Co., Ltd and which was the first successful case of fund- raising to establish a company. On December 5, 2019, when President Ing-wen Tsai awarded the “Ministry of Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Award,” STUST became the only private university among the 14 award-winning ones. STUST also successfully developed the " Hearing Aid on Smart Spectacles" by working with High-end Smart Biomedical Joint Research Center, Chi Mei Medical Center, which won the second Longteng Smile Smart Network Entrepreneurship, the Diamond Award in the Application Group of the 19th Macron Gold Silicon Award-Semiconductor Design and Application Competition in 2019, and the Gold Medal of the 2019 Taiwan Innovation Technology Expo. In addition, STUST also established the Nanfang South-Taiwan Industry-University Co-construction Technology R&D Center, Somatosensory Content Intelligent System Center, and Optical and Integrated Circuit Center.

Deng-Maw Lu, President of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, pointed out that the key to the recognition of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology lies in the establishment of a good pro-industry-university environment. Performances such as excellent teaching performance enhance the application value of faculty’s research and development achievements in the derivative industry, and continue to move towards the goal of becoming "the best partner for industry cooperation." It has also created a learning environment seamlessly integrated with the industry for teachers and students to create a win-win situation.
