The 16th Holtek Cup Holtek MCU Creativity Competition was held at STUST, with more than 100 teams from university and college to compete and show their smart new ideas across different domains.

    

The 16th Holtek Cup Holtek MCU Creative Competition was held on December 25th at STUST. The competition was quite fierce, with more than 100 teams from various universities in Taiwan. This competition was sponsored by Holtek Semiconductor, organized by STUST, and guided by the Office of the Promotion of Smart Electronics Industry Project of the Industrial Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Executive Office of the Ministry of Education. It aimed to promote industry-university cooperation and education platform-National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. It was jointly organized by Bicycle and the Health Technology Industry Research and Development Center. On the same day, Vice President Hong-De Chang of STUST, Executive Deputy General Manager Zhi Chang of Holtek Semiconductor were invited. Representatives of industries and government agencies were also invited to participate in the event and exchanged ideas with the participating teams to discover talents and new ideas, including those from the Smart Electronics Industry Project Promotion Office of the Industrial Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Executive Office of the Ministry of Education to promote industry-university cooperation and education platform, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Bicycle and Health Technology Industry Research and Development Center, Xinhong Electronics, Avnet Technology Co., Ltd., and Youfang Electronics.

The creative competition is a collaboration between industry, government and academia to set up a special competition stage for college students in the fields of electrical machinery, electronics, engineering, machinery and product design. Xinhong Electronics Co., Ltd., Avnet Technology Co., Ltd., and Youfang Technology Industry provided various modules, components, and awards to encourage participating students inspire more creative ideas in the competition and make their works more diversified.

This year the competition was divided into "Creative Product Design Group," "8-bit MCU Application Group," and "32-bit MCU Application Group." The total prize money was nearly 1 million NTD. The competition continued to promote a number of "professional awards", one of which was the "Intelligent Electronics Industry Project Promotion Office of the Industrial Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs" to jointly promote the promotion of Taiwanese chip manufacturers' innovative application development platforms and the development of intelligent unmanned vehicle applications. It encouraged more students to concentrate on the electronic creativity competition and realize the idea and implement smart innovative applications. The Smart Electronics Industry Innovation Application Award was set up to comply with the trend of electronic product applications. Sponsored by Xinhong Electronics, Avnet Technology Co., Ltd., and Youfang Technology, the competition offered such great awards as Wireless Creative Application Award, Healthy Environment and Smart Green Energy Application Award and Human Machine Interface Application Award to encourage students to conduct research and development on related topics. In order to respond to industry development trends and promote the formation of a healthy sports culture, the competition continued to offer the Smart Bicycle and Health Technology Application Award to encourage competition teams to focus on bicycles and electric bicycles form the disabled. Four major industries—including bicycles, light electric vehicles, fitness and rehabilitation equipment, and medical mobility aids—were included in the competition for creative design ideas.

According to Executive Deputy General Manager Zhi Chang of Holtek Semiconductor, the Holtek Cup Holtek MCU Creative Competition has entered its 16th year. In addition to the goal of promoting technology transfer, commercialization and talent matching, the creative product design team will be maintained this year. It is hoped that students will research and develop creative products and have complete product designs, so that their works will be more commercialized and applied in compliance with the promotion of industry-university cooperation through the Ministry of Education. A mutually beneficial industry-university cooperation system should continuously cultivate practical scientific and technological talents with global competitiveness.
