STUST showed its teaching strength and won fruitful results in the Division Competition of the 52nd National Skills Competition.

The Southern Division Competition of the 52nd National Skills Competition, hosted by the Workforce Development Agency of the Ministry of Labor, announced the competition results a few days ago. STUST won a number of awards, with a total of 8 students winning awards in various categories, including pastry production, bakery, Chinese cooking, cloud computing, mobile application development, and 3D digital game art. Among them, 6 students advanced to the national competition in September, which shows that STUST has been diligently training students for outstanding results.

STUST has been strongly committed to the development of technical and vocational education. The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management actively guides its students to participate in various competitions, and selects and sends students to Australia to obtain licenses for catering. Under a long-term intensive training of the school, Yun-chen Liu won the judges’ favor and the second place in the pastry production category with her work "Future World.” Jia-yu Ni, a freshman student of the department, won an excellent work award with her bakery art—"Tiger Out of the Mountain.” Min-shiang Shu, who participated in the "Chinese Cuisine Cooking" competition, lived up to expectations and entered the Southern Division after the fiercely competitive preliminary competition and won another excellent work award with her great performance.

The Department of Multimedia and Computer Entertainment Science, STUST, participated in the skills competition of “3D Digital Game Art” for the first time this year. Sophomore student Yu-ting Feng won the silver medal in the regional competition, and jounor student You-chi Shiao won the fourth place. For students to participate in the competition, the department set up a special training course for 3D digital game art, and the 10-month training course was coordinated by Associate Professor Mao-kun Shao.

Associate Professor Mao-kun Shao said that the department planned a series of professional 3D courses to help students develop certain basic abilities; coupled with the tempering of the 3D special training class, they could better adapt to the competitive environment. Although it was the first time for the department to participate in this competition, it showed fruitful results, and the department would establish a more complete training mechanism for players in the future.

Students from the Department of Information Engineering of STUST have participated in various competitions across the country and have won many awards. Prof. Rong-shian Yin, Chair of the department, said that the department officially participated in the "Cloud Computing" competition this year. Senior student Yun-yao Zheng won the fourth place in the regional competition and achieved fruitful results.

In order to train students to participate in the competition, Prof. Guo-jun Hong, designed different types of training methods and planned a 4-month special training on "cloud computing" as well as an 8-month special training on "mobile application.” With the encouragement of Prof. Guo-jun Hong, students participated in the new "Mobile Application Development" category in the national skills competition and won the fourth place in the regional competition, which also encouraged the students to make persistent efforts to the national competition.

Chair Mei-lan Lin of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management said that STUST has been deeply engaged in the training of catering technology for a long time, investing resources and guiding students to participate in various professional competitions. The teachers of the department keep helping students move forward bravely with their rich professional guidance experiences. The students who participated in the competition also observed the works of the senior students in the baking and catering team. They came to realize that they still needed to adjust their studies and efforts. The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, STUST, always actively prepares students to become innovative catering practical talents in enterprises, cultivates students with theoretical foundation of catering and tourism and practical technology, helps them timely understand the changes in the environment of the sector, and integrates theoretical and practical courses to establish students' catering and tourism knowledge, skills, competence and good attitudes.

Deng-maw Lu, President of STUST, said that the university’s educational goal is to cultivate practical, scientific and technological talents. In recent years, hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent to upgrade the school's software and hardware facilities, and school resources have been actively invested in students' practical ability training to create high-quality In the learning environment. Teachers and students are encouraged to participate in various competitions at home and abroad, and funds are provided to subsidize the production of special projects and competition fees. All of these have showed the university's active efforts to cultivate students.
