[Education is the key to future development in the tendency of AI] The combination of AI and semiconductors is profoundly changing our economy and society. Facing this wave of technology, education plays a vital role. De-guang Chou, Acting President of STUST, offered profound insights into education reform in the AI era at the Global Views Leaders Forum. He emphasized that AI is not only a tool in the engineering field, but also the infrastructure of society. It is urgent to cultivate AI education and talents with interdisciplinary knowledge and AI thinking as early as possible.

The combination of AI and semiconductors is changing our world at an unprecedented speed. This not only promotes the transformation and upgrading of the industry, but also puts forward new requirements for education. President Chou pointed out that AI has changed the tools of various industries, human lifestyles, and the infrastructure of society. From this perspective, AI should be exciting not only to people in the engineering field, but also to people in all fields. AI is no longer just a patent in the engineering field. It is penetrating into every aspect of our lives and becoming a key force in promoting social progress. He emphasized that the development of AI requires not only engineering talents, but also cross-field talents with humanistic qualities and social science backgrounds. Both are resources for us to seek broader possibilities for the application of AI.

[The importance of General Education in the AI Era] President Chou believes that AI should be part of the general education for our next generation and that the current general education structure can no longer fully meet the needs of the AI era. He said that in the past, general education focused on basic subjects, such as literature, history, and philosophy. This is important, but in the AI era, we need to cultivate students' interdisclinary thinking and problem-solving abilities. He suggested that schools should incorporate AI-related courses into the general education system to help students understand the principles, applications, and impacts of AI on society.

[To actively cultivate interdisclinary talents] President Chou emphasized that the AI era needs talents with interdisclinary knowledge and skills. He said that in the future, what we need are talents who can integrate humanities, social sciences, and scientific and technological knowledge, so that they can develop AI applications that can truly meet human needs. Schools should encourage students to take courses in different fields and develop interdisciplinary learning abilities.

[AI is the infrastructure of society] President Chou further pointed out that AI is not just a tool; it is more like a kind of social infrastructure. We should think about how to make AI better serve human society and improve the quality of life. He believes that the application of AI requires not only technological breakthroughs, but also humanistic care.

[Smart technology of Southern Taiwan brings opportunities for the development of AI talents] About the advantages of Southern Taiwan in cultivating talents, Acting President De-guang Chou pointed out that Southern Taiwan Science Park has now surpassed Northern Taiwan Science Park, and the rise of AI and semiconductor industries has made Southern Taiwan the center of emerging industries. It has brought abundant employment opportunities. Over the past few years, the number of people travelling north to work has been reduced. The rise of Southern Taiwan Science Park has attracted more students and talents from the central and northern parts of the country. With more and more people travelling south to work, Southern Taiwan has developed into a new gathering place for talents and job opportunities. STUST actively responds to this trend and provides students with ample internship and employment opportunities through industry-university cooperation and innovative teaching models to ensure that they are competent at work and even stand out in the workplace.

As a university that values innovation, STUST will actively respond to national policies, cultivate more talents with AI literacy, and contribute to Taiwan's industrial development.

At the Global Views Leaders Forum, Present Mary Yang of Global Vision Magazine, Deputy Mayor Da-sheng Luo of Kaohsiung, Chairman Chao-chun Lu of Etron Technology, and Chairman Zi-shian Tong of Pegatron Technology jointly discussed the future development of AI and the semiconductor industry. President Chou said that STUST will continue to pay attention to the development of AI technology, actively adjust teaching content and methods, and cultivate outstanding interdisclinary talents that meet the needs of various industries and future industries. At the same time, STUST will continue to strengthen cooperation with the industry to jointly promote the development of Taiwan’s AI industry to meet future challenges.
