STUST USR Project won the Global Vision Award for promoting local inclusion and sustainable development:

STUST demonstrated its outstanding strength in the 6th Global Vision USR University Social Responsibility Award in 2025. Two USR projects successfully won awards, including the "Local Inclusion Group" Model Award and the "Sustainable Curriculum Group" Performance Award, adding another achievement to the school's promotion of social responsibility and sustainable development. Among them, the "Cross-Music Coup: South Flow Westward and Inclusive Art" project promoted cultural heritage and community integration through music, images, and technological innovation; and the "Carbon Storage and Fishery USR Green Electricity Creation and Energy Saving Practice Credit Program" focused on green energy technology and carbon reduction transformation, cultivated cross-domain talents, and assisted the sustainable development of the fishery industry.

Art and culture integration—connecting culture and community through music and images:

The "Cross-Music Coup: South and West, Inclusive Art" project deeply explored the local culture of Shigang, Tainan, combining music, video, and performing arts to create songs, documentaries, and e-books with local characteristics. It also worked with the well-known theater group "Yueyan" to create an inclusive musical. Project host Zhi-jie Hsu said that through these creations, the stories of local residents can be seen, and young people can re-recognize and cherish local culture. In addition, the plan was to cooperate with Nanyang Polytechnic in Singapore to develop AR guide software so that Sihanoukville’s unique parade culture could be spread to a wider stage through digital technology and international exchanges.

In the process of promoting the project, the team emphasized the importance of community co-creation, not only allowing local residents to participate in creation and performance, but also connecting new and old residents through music. The project team believes that art has the potential to unite the community, promote cultural heritage and social integration, and ensure that the town’s story not only remains in the past but continues to be a common memory.

Green energy sustainability—cultivating cross-domain talents to promote carbon reduction transformation:

In the "Sustainable Course Group," STUST's "USR Green Power Creation and Energy Saving Practice Credit Course" focused on the carbon reduction transformation of aquaculture in Taiwan's southwest coastal areas. Project leader Prof. You-ren Chen of the Department of Mechanical Engineering said that Taiwan's aquacultural industry relies on manpower and faces high costs and environmental burdens. Therefore, this project introduced green electricity creation and intelligent automation technologies, hoping to reduce carbon emissions through technology and improve the sustainability of the aquaculture industry.

The program encouraged students to engage in in-depth field practice, personally participate in the innovation and optimization of breeding technology, and enhance their learning motivation and practical ability. In addition to technical improvements, the project also focused on industry-university collaboration and discussed with local businesses how to maintain economic benefits while taking into account environmental sustainability to create a win-win model. The team hoped to gradually change the industry ecosystem through long-term investment and contribute practical actions to Taiwan's sustainable development.

The value of USR—universities and society work together to create impact:

The Global Vision USR University Social Responsibility Award aims to recognize USR projects with significant social impact and promote exchanges and common growth among higher education institutions. The competition this year was fierce, and STUST stood out with its years of hard work in the local area. Two of its projects were successfully awarded, demonstrating the school's outstanding achievements in promoting USR.

President Neng-fu Huang emphasized that STUST has always adhered to the educational philosophy of "pragmatism and practicality," is committed to becoming a model of technical and vocational education, and actively promotes "cross-domain innovation" and "sustainable development." He pointed out that the influence of universities is not limited to academic research but should also respond to social needs through the USR program, allowing teachers and students to accumulate valuable practical experience through actual participation and promote local sustainable development. The winning USR project fully embodies the core educational values of STUST. It not only promotes cultural integration but also allows technological innovation to drive industrial sustainability, demonstrating the positive impact of higher education on society.
