Fruitful Results of Cross-Border Talent Cultivation: Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology Partnered with the Sonora State Government and Mexico’s Industrial Technology Research Institute to Develop High-Level Technology Professionals

In line with the Sonora State Government’s initiative to promote high-tech industrial park development, the "International Talent Cultivation Program" was launched to select top university students for overseas study and training in advanced technology. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST), in collaboration with the Sonora State Government and the Industrial Technology Research Institute, selected 21 outstanding students from over 6,000 applicants. Beginning in 2024, these students participated in a year-long journey of intensive professional training and cross-cultural learning.

STUST held a grand graduation ceremony on June 20 to celebrate the completion of the program. Francisco Javier Martinez, Deputy Representative of the Mexican Commercial Visa and Cultural Office, attended the event and, together with representatives from the Industrial Technology Research Institute and university officials, recognized the achievements of the program’s participants.

The program’s curriculum focused on three core areas: semiconductor technology, the electric vehicle industry, and smart manufacturing. These technical courses were integrated with Chinese language instruction, multicultural exchange activities, and industrial visits. The experience not only enhanced students’ professional expertise but also fostered global communication skills and cultural understanding. During the program, students visited key technology and traditional enterprises in Taiwan, engaging directly with industry experts to gain insights into current trends and practical applications.

To further enrich the learning experience, STUST arranged a variety of cultural activities, including sessions on Taiwan’s traditional festivals and handicrafts, as well as guided tours of Tainan’s historic and cultural landmarks. These experiences helped the students naturally integrate into local life and form deeper emotional connections with Taiwanese culture.

President Nen-Fu Huang of STUST attended the ceremony to offer his encouragement, urging the students to continue striving for excellence and to confidently pursue their goals on the global stage. Vice President Te-Kuang Chou, the program director, along with other university leaders, also attended. This demonstrated the school’s strong commitment to international talent development.

President Huang noted that this program not only deepens global collaboration in higher education but also marks a significant milestone in Taiwan-Mexico cooperation in science and technology talent exchange. He expressed confidence that these graduates will apply the skills and knowledge gained in Taiwan to the development of their hometowns, driving innovation and growth in Sonora.
