The 2015 International Symposium on Nano Science and Technology was held at Southern
Taiwan University of Science and Technology. STUST fully demonstrated the results of its
international exchange and showed itself developing into an international university of science and technology
The 2015 International Symposium on Nano Science and Technology was held at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, co-sponsored and guided by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Industrial-Academic Cooperation Project of Nanotechnology Research and Development at National Cheng Kung University, and Tainan City Government, and organized by Mechanical Engineering Department , Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Outstanding scholars from well-known universities of five countries came to participate in the symposium, while a total of 20 renowned scholars from Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia were invited to give lectures on a great variety of topics, such as applications of nanotechnology to traditional industries, semiconductor production, optoelectronic development, energy development, and biomedical sectors. The symposium has been held since 2003 and has so far entered the 13th year. Every year it attracts more than 130 articles from different countries, which encompass results and discussions of the latest research related to nanotechnology and high-tech materials. To be sure, it has become an important annual event of nanotechnology and advanced materials in South Taiwan.

Dr. Igor S.Lyubutin from Russia was invited to give an opening speech on "Application of Magnetic Iron-Oxide Nanoparticles to Design and Application of Drug Delivery." As a member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Lyututin enjoys a world-wide reputation in magnetic physics. This presentation focused on applying the magnetic nanoparticles to drug delivery with therapeutic targets at its biomedical aspects, which is currently very innovative and popular in the scientific community. Another Speaker, Professor Yoshimura from Japan, presented his study on "Green Manufacturing Technology of Advanced Ceramic Materials Synthesis," which describes how living organism simulation can help manufacturing techniques. Prof. Yoshimura, currently a visiting scholar at National Cheng Kung University, is the author of several scholarly papers that have brought great impact on the sphere of ceramics. Topics and issues for discussions in the symposium showed a great spectrum, including top-tier manufacturing technology of nano-devices, the interface of science and phenomenon of nano-technology, electrostatic spinning process for preparing nano-fiber and its application, preparation and application of functional ceramic green metal/ceramic composite material, preparation and application of Biomaterials, and application of micro-electromechanical elements to biological detectors.

In recent years, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology actively invited well-known scholars from different universities to come for international exchange. A lot of the international scholars invited to the symposium have had cooperation and exchange with STUST a remarkable extent. Prof. Torii of Japan Kumamoto University and Ritsumeikan University have had close cooperative relationship with Prof. Tsun-Sien Chuang of Mechanical Engineering Department; Prof. Topaiboul of Northern Thailand University has had a long-term joint research in food texture testing with Prof. Nai-Shang Liu of Mechanical Engineering Department. Over this summer, Prof. Topaiboul brought a team of 5 teachers and students to Taiwan to work with Prof. Nai-Shang Liu, jointly developing a platform for fruit texture testing. During the time of this symposium, Prof. Topaiboul led a team of the 11 students to Taiwan to participate in the meeting; during and after the meeting, they had an intensive program with Mechanical Engineering Department.
