Department of Leisure, Recreation, and Tourism Management, Southern Taiwan University of
Science and Technology, won the championship of the 2015 Marine Leisure Activities and
Cultural Festivals Planning Competition!

The team led by Prof. Ying Ren Pan of Department of Leisure, Recreation, and Tourism Management, won the championship of the 2015 Marine Leisure Activities and Cultural Festivals Planning Competition, which was organized by the Department of Leisure Management, Chungyu Institute of Technology and directed by the Department of Technological and Vocational Education and the Center for Teaching Excellence, Northern Region, MOE.

The purpose of this competition is to help students of this oceanic country to understand the connotation of its cultural assets and diversity and to present and discover more marine leisure activities and cultural aspects. By tourism and sightseeing, the competition set its target at making more people pay attention to the marine cultural assets and promoting the human ecology of marine conservation.

The team was formed by Wie-Ting Jan, Yi-Fang Wu, Pei-Jeng Chen, Guan-Ying Liu and Yi-Ju Yang. Focused on the theme "Oceanic Penghu, All Kinds of Pleasure," they designed a tour specifically for those whose vacation is short and whose income is limited. They created an exclusive trip thematically focused on marine leisure activities and marine festival activities; with attractions of the nearby surroundings, the trip set love couples as its major customers. Fireworks festivals, water activities, DIY experiences, and many other activities were rescheduled, combined with creative treasure hunt game and value-added services, to form a three-day-and-two-night package that impressed passengers with Penghu’s sweet atmosphere and thereby enhance the love feeling of every couple. Thanks to the innovation of the Internet marketing, they could break through the barrier of traditional advertising and better enhance the visibility and popularity of their trip. In the final presentation, they presented their design in a different style from other teams, with interesting dialogues, amazing composure, and quick responses in the Q&A section. Indeed, they deserved the first place.

According to Ling-Mei Ke, chairman of the Department of Leisure, Recreation, and Tourism Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, the department has been actively encouraging students to participate in competitions and acquire a professional license. In addition to bringing classroom theories into practical experience, participating in design competitions can bring students more opportunities to enhance their planning capacity. Coupled with the help and guidance from Prof. Ying-Ren Pan, their teams have had a record of great performances. It is expected that with all kinds of game planning, the quality of Taiwan tourism can be improved. This will also allow students to apply their knowledge and gradually become professional personnel in activity planning.
