Mobileheroes Communication Competition, also called "Telecommunications Oscar Awards," has been held for the 14th consecutive year, with smart city application design competition, software-defined networking innovative application competition, 4G / B4G intelligent terminal antenna design competition, and MediaTek’s IOT wearable design competition as its four major contents. The total prize money of this grant competition was more than NT$3,000,000 fully from corporate sponsors. The participating teams were up to 345 teams, with a total of 1,017 participants in the competition. It is not easy that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology could stand out of so many outstanding teams and won the championship is not easy.

STUST participated in the IOT wearable design contest supported by MediaTek company with its LinkIt platform offered to participating teams for application development, along with relevant training the company provided. The winning work "LinkIt Cloud UAV flight Safety Monitoring Platform" comes with the solution to the security problems caused by the widespread use of UAV consumption. The system is designed not only to set up the UAV fly zone but to provide cloud real-time monitoring system Information and control aircraft flight paths. If it happens that the cloud platform UAV flight plan fails to follow the flight plan and schedule, the system can force it to return to its implementation procedures. In addition, the system also includes a distal end in search of a missing UAV, which can effectively enhance the safety of unmanned aircraft and provide users with more secure, convenient monitoring technology.

Prof. Jih-Chin Li, said the team would actively cooperate with MediaTek, ITRI and the Department of Industry and other units for subsequent research collaboration. It is expected that this system can set up completely so as to providers flights with more convenient and more secure user drones flying experience. The system is also expected to officially provide effective monitoring and management to prevent some flight safety issues from happening after the current popularity of UAVs. Prof. Li has had professional background in terms of aerospace technology and systems integration. In the competition, he showed his accumulated power over the past 10 year on real-time monitoring and UAV communications, control technology, and construction on MediaTek LinkIt platform. The team can fully play LinkIt action platform of communications, satellite positioning, wireless communications, and other characteristics, so the judges unanimously agreed to their winning of the championship.
