The drama club of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won the Silver Crane Award in the 2015 BES Filial Piety Creative Performing Contest by BES Education Foundation. After two months of rehearsals, the club beat the other 14 groups by their play Exchang. With its humorous approach, the play emphasizes that filial piety is important and calls for attention to filial piety as one thing to do in our everyday lives.

In order to participate in the significant event, the STUST drama club held preliminary contest for teams including puppetry play, drama show, etc. The team from drama club stood out of the five teams with superb acting, moving story, and music that could touch one’s heartstrings. They got qualified for a trip to Taipei to participate in the national finals. After a long time practicing and making efforts and correction, the club’s team eventually won the Silver Crane Award in the College Group.

The award-winning play Exchange tells the story of a girl called Siao-Yu Ji and her blind father. The girl went out to buy dinner for her his father; unfortunately, she died in a traffic accident and was brought by the black and white soldiers to the Hades. After repeated pleading, she was finally allowed one day to go back and say goodbye to his father. The last scene saw the story end with the father’s threating to Hades by reporting to the Heaven that they had once drunk together in an illegal place, which finally brought back the life of his daughter. The former half of the story is presented in tragedy, while the story ends in the clever joyful, funny way. Such artful design won the favor of all the judges.

Team member Guan-Hao Lin said that, as one of the judges mentioned in his comment—"Being creative does not necessarily means being funny." Such is the word that move both the director and the actors quite a lot. They expected that next year they would learn from the experience this year and produce better dramatic work to win glory again for STUST.
