Global Vision Magazine announces the best university in Taiwan in 2018. South Taiwan is among the top 20 universities of science and technology and leads all private universities in three categories, including “universities of social science,” “social influence,” and “eminence in education.”《2018/7/5》

Global Vision Magazine recently announced its "2018 Taiwan's Best University Rankings." Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology ranked among the top 20 in the "University of Science and Technology Rankings," as good as Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei University of Science and Technology, and Yunlin University of Science and Technology. With regard to president eminence, it is still on top of private universities of science and technology. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology also ranks 8th among the 155 universities in terms of its social influence, second to no private university of science and technology and surpassing many national universities. It is also the only private university of science and technology listed on best universities of social sciences. It is obvious that STUST has achieved fruitful results under the leadership of Chairman Hsin-Hsiong Chang and President Deng-maw Lu and sponsored by the Ministry of Education in recent years by a series of teaching excellence programs, model science and technology university programs, and the recent Higher Education Sprout Project. The results have won recognition for STUST from all walks of life.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been positioning itself to be the best partner of industry over the past few years, keeping firm cooperation with industry and working on integration of production research and outside resources. Not only has it helped a lot of enterprises cultivate their talented personnel, it has but also solved the manpower gaps in many industries, assisted enterprises in developing key technologies, and established the concept that R&D should also show certain industrial application values. There are four key elements to its school development: "implementing teaching innovation and improving teaching quality," "developing school characteristics," "improving the publicity of higher education," and "taking the best social responsibility of the university," along with 32 32 development strategies and corresponding practices to make Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology move toward its goal of becoming a top-ranking university.

In this survey, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology is the only listed private technology university in the category of university of social sciences. The College of Business Administration passed the AACSB International Business Administration Certification in May 2017, which made STUST the first university in Taiwan to have been certified. In "Taiwan Business Management Trends Survey" released by Harvard Business Review in 2018, STUST is listed as the university that has cooperated with most countries in terms of overseas study. At present, there are 87 international students in the campus, accounting for 14.5% of the overall graduate students at STUST. From doctoral programs, masters’ classes, to undergraduate ones, international classes are widely established and taught in English. The international students come not only from Southeast Asia, but also from 28 different countries including France, Denmark, and the United States. The College of Business Administration has cooperated with many overseas universities. Each year, the GMBA program has about 10 exchange students from the University of Paris. In order to strengthen teaching at STUST, teachers are sent to Australia for language training every summer, so that the teachers can continue to improve. In addition, the College of Business and Management has shown great brilliance in various competitions, with teams winning the championship in the 2017 National College Fund Investment Simulation Competition, IPITEX International Invention Exhibition, and many other competitions.

In the aspect of industry and academia, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has implemented a growth rate of 34% in industry-university cooperation (including technology transfer) from 2011 to 2017; the overall amount of external resources has increased from more than NT$ 440 million in 2011 to nearly NT$ 900 million in 2017, with it’s a 102.13% growth rate. The annual income of technology transfer increased from NT$ 2 million in 2011 to nearly NT$ 12 million in 2017, with a 494% growth rate. International production and learning increased from NT$ 2.25 million (7 cases) in 2012 to NT$ 13.37 million (23 cases) in 2017, with a 431% growth rate. The number of invention patents has increased from 22 cases in 2011 to 119 cases in 2017 with a 440% growth rate, second only to Tsinghua University (131 cases) and NCKU (121 cases), ranking third in the country. The eye-catching performance of keeping pace with top universities has made Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology the leader of the private science and technology university. In terms of entrepreneurship, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has created an excellent cultivation environment. Since the establishment of its incubation center 20 years ago, there have been 206 cases, including 4 listed companies, 7 derivative companies, and 99 new ventures, with70 young entrepreneurs altogether. Over the past three years, the counseled and nurtured enterprises have obtained government subsidies of NT$ 34.96 million, with a total turnover of NT$ 690 million and an investment totaling NT$ 560 million. Department of Small and Medium Enterprise, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, selected the center as the Best Incubation Center. It also won the first prize of the “Best University Incubator” in InBIA (105), becoming one of the best private university breeding centers in Taiwan.

As President Deng-Maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said, since the establishment of the School of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology 48 years ago, STUST has been adhering to its motto "Being Faithful, Righteous, and Honest" in nurturing young talents.
