Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, has won a lot of prizes and over the past month, showing great strength in many national and international competitions, including the 2019 HOFEX—Asia's Leading Food & Hospitality Tradeshow, the Seoul Food & Hotel 2019, and the 49th National Skills Competition—Hotel Service category, organized by the Department of Labor Development, the Ministry of Labor. All the student teams were outstanding and impressive in their performances.

Yu-Shin Chen and Yu-Shin Li, directed Prof. Mei-Shiang Yu, from the Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, recently participated in the 49th National Skills Competition, organized by the Department of Labor Development, the Ministry of Labor. After the fierce competitions in the preliminary and the finals, Yu-Shin Chen won third place in the Hotel Service Category and Yu-Shin Li won an Excellency Award.

Another student team led by Prof. Hong-Ru Tsai from the Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the silver medal of the 2019 HOFEX-- Asia's Leading Food & Hospitality Tradeshow Competition. More than 1,000 people signed up for the competition, including 563 participants from 11 countries and regions from overseas. Yu-Shin Tang and Yu-Ru Hong emerged in the afternoon-tea competition. The theme was to use Taiwan's agricultural products and fruits to present Hakka flavor, light and not greasy, and eat healthy.

In addition, the student team led by Prof. Yong-Hui Hu, from the Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, participated in the Cooking Challenge of the Seoul Food & Hotel 2019. The competition was divided into individual competitions and team competitions. There were cooking experts from Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, the United States, Japan, Russia, Canada, Hong Kong, etc. The three students of the department—Ya-Zhen Shen, Shun-Ting Hong, and Wei-Cheng Wang—performed outstandingly and won the bronze medal in the Chinese Food Group and an excellency award in the seafood individual competition in the category.
Mei-Lan Lin, Chair of the Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that the competition venues, equipment adaptation, food purchase, and preservation in the international competition were very challenging for the participants. The students did a good job in the competition. Some of them were stable and worthy of encouragement for the first time in a large international competition. The experience of international competition can also increase the experience of other participants, such as booth layout, time allocation, theme design, and dish design, etc. In the future, students will be encouraged to share their competition experience and encourage them to participate in various international cooking competitions. It is greatly hoped that the students of the department can gradually emerge on the international arena.
Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology attaches great importance to the international integration of academic theory and substantive technology.
